Character Background: As the child of the director of a medical center, Touka Satomi quickly turned out to be something of a genius in the hard sciences. However, she was also born with a seemingly terminal illness - the precise details aren't written, but some of the side info implies that her brain cells overheat. As a result of this, she spent most of her life in her father's medical center, putting together what she could out of the (incredibly generous) resources available to her. This resulted in her having a somewhat twisted personality, even as she became a world-renowned figure in the field of astrophysics. As a result, she wound up alone and friendless until the day when she was assigned to share a room with two other children with a terminal illness: Nemu Hiiragi, and Ui Tamaki. Thanks to each other’s influence, as well as the influence of Ui’s older sister Iroha, the three children began to grow more optimistic and accepting of the world, with Touka in particular beginning to accept other people. As the children became more optimistic, their health improved enough to allow them to go for short walks, during one of which they ended up discovering one Alina Gray, who had attempted to commit suicide by leaping off a buliding, and brought Alina to the hospital, saving her life. During this phase, the three children began creating “rumors”, imaginary stories about the city they lived in, with the idea that once they left, they would prove or disprove those rumors... Everything changed however, when the children were attacked by a being known as a witch, and rescued by Iroha, who apparently became a magical girl to improve Ui’s health.
Touka had heard of magical girls before thanks to a book written by her uncle, and began her own investigation into things, leading to her to verify the truth of the magical girl system from the Incubator, Kyubey: That magical girl’s souls are transferred into a soul gem, and once the soul gem becomes filled with darkness, the magical girl permanently transforms into a witch, a creature which seeks only destruction. And so the three children began a plan to save Iroha from her fate of becoming a witch: By becoming magical girls themselves. To be precise, their plan was to steal the three core aspects of Kyubey’s power, and use it to create an automated soul gem purification system: Ui would wish for the power to “Gather” impurities from Kyubey, and use that to gather the negativity from soul gems. Touka would wish for the power to “Convert” energies of different types, converting the impurities that Ui gathered into raw energy, which could then be passed to Nemu, who would wish for the power to “Manifest”, and use the energy Touka converted to create physical objects. In addition, becoming magical girls would cure their illnesses, as magical girls automatically heal and optimize their own bodies to be at peak fitness. Upon bringing up the plan to Kyubey, Kyubey approved, but noted that there was a high chance that if they did not have sufficient karmic destiny, something would go horribly wrong, and while Touka initially prepared to give up at that point, Ui pushed through and said it was worth the risk. And so the three children went ahead with the plan, each of them making their wish to Kyubey and having it granted, whereupon the Kyubey, with no powers left in it, became an empty vessel.
Almost immediately, things went wrong: Ui couldn’t fully control her power, resulting in her gathering impurities at a faster pace than Touka could purify them, resulting in Ui’s soul gem getting tainted at a high speed, an action prevented only by Alina’s timely appearance; As a magical girl with the power of barriers, Alina sealed Ui off from the impurities long enough for Touka and Nemu to think of a plan: Nemu used her power of Materialization to move Ui’s soul into Kyubey’s empty vessel, believing that with her soul removed, they would be able to delay her becoming a witch until they found a solution. Unfortunately, the act of moving Ui’s soul like that also erased all traces of the individual known as Ui Tamaki from existence, rewriting everyone’s memories; No longer did they have memories of the individuals known as Ui and Iroha. No longer was this a plan made by three children to save Iroha; Now it was a plan set up by Alina Gray to make use of an unknown Half-witch with the power of Gathering to prevent the creation of witches. And with the loss and manipulation of some of Touka’s most important memories, also came a return to her old personality. The three geniuses Touka Satomi, Nemu Hiiragi, and Alina Gray would use their powers to rebuild the world according to their own ideals, and none could interrupt that.
Shortly after their automated system was established using the unknown Half-witch (now known as Eve), one Mifuyu Azusa was reaching the darkest point of a mental breakdown from finding out the truth about magical girls... Except instead of turning into a Witch, she became one of the first people to use a Doppel, prompting Touka to personally come down and explain things to her. Mifuyu in turn would quickly join the three geniuses in their plans, believing in the ideal of freeing magical girls from the curse of becoming a witch, and Touka quickly adopted the 19 year old, giving her a place to stay, keeping her fed, and teaching her about medicine along the way. In turn, Mifuyu would build an infrastructure for the geniuses to work towards their goals. Thus, the Wings of the Magius, was formed, with Touka, Nemu, and Alina as the Magius that rule them and lead the way to salvation.
Freed from the need to micromanage everything themselves, the Magius began experimenting with the full array of their capabilities, with Alina collecting witches for her own personal collection, Nemu turning the old rumors they made up into actual physical beings, and Touka acting as something of a figurehead to the group. This would be how the Magius operated for six months, before Iroha one day regained her memories of her sister and set out to find out the truth of what happened to Ui, setting the main plot of the game into motion.
Iroha’s investigation into Ui would end up leading her to destroy several of the rumors Nemu had manifested, now known as “Uwasa”, which in turn triggered something of a panic response in the two children in the Magius: Their powers were stronger than their bodies could actually take, and would eventually kill them; Afraid that they would not live long enough to see enough energy gathered to accomplish their goal, Alina managed to goad the two into escalating things, slowly raising the stakes in an attempt to gather energy faster. At around this same point, a petty school fight had led Touka herself to a revelation: If she truly wanted to achieve her goals, she needed to “throw away the remainder”. Other people would just get in the way of their plans, so why not speed up the energy gathering by extracting the energy gained from their deaths? And thus Touka began to embrace the role as dictator, brainwashing and sacrificing people with no limits for her goals. This in turn would push Iroha and her team further into conflict with the Magius. Iroha, having regained her own memories of Ui, Touka, and Nemu, was highly distressed about Touka and Nemu apparently embracing supervillainy, and went out of her way to try and remind them of the past they had forgotten with Ui... Which Touka initially rejected, but as the pieces kept falling into place, Touka found it harder and harder to deny it, until Nemu rejected it cleanly for her. Regaining her confidence with that, the Magius captured Iroha with the intent to feed her to Eve, leading Iroha’s party to invade the Magius’s home base for a dramatic confrontation with them... Which was just as the Magius intended in the first place. Eve was trapped inside of the Magius’s base, and would only be able to leave once said base was destroyed. So they let the heroes do their thing, destroying the base and setting Eve free to fight Walpurgisnacht, a witch said to be the Strongest Witch. Were Eve to consume Walpurgisnacht, it would be so filled with energy that it would fully hatch, placing the entire world under Eve’s, and by proxy the Magius’s, control.
Character Personality: Touka is at heart, a mad scientist. Her primary desire is and always has been the desire to know and understand the world around her, often building and creating things less because she needs to do something and more because she can, leaving it to others to figure out how to use it, or looking for excuses to test something out without knowing what exactly it will do. This is particularly noticeable in later points of canon, where she actively performs dangerous experiments with a high chance to destroy the universe if something goes wrong without any particular concern for how things could go wrong, responding to one person with “sometimes experiments don’t go as planned” when things actually did go wrong. In addition, she is fairly open about her desire to know “everything there is to know about the universe”, to the point where even while expressing active dislike of Kyubey’s methods, she strongly supports communicating with him so that she can advance her own knowledge.
That being said, she has a particular flaw as a scientist and a person in that her isolation before she became a magical girl has filled her with both an inherent distrust in adults, and a particularly depressing interpretation of the world around her: How do you know that the person talking to you isn’t lying? Maybe they’re just saying whatever they can to steal things away from you. The only things you can truly know are things you can find and prove for yourself. And indeed, prior to Ui and Iroha helping her become a better person, she would zealously hoard away the things she had learned, terrified that someone would take away “her things”, even when said things were simply knowledge. In particular, an incident involving Iroha helped teach her that kindness has an inherent value in and of itself. Beyond that however, Iroha and Ui gave Touka “normal” people to interact with: Before interacting with Iroha and Ui, most of the people she interacted with her were geniuses in their own right, and as a result Touka never really connected with the idea of treating normal people as equals before then.
After her memories got altered, this became even worse: She never had any individuals that were both normal people and her equal. Alina and Nemu were her equals, but they were also geniuses in their own right, and while Mifuyu provided some context on “normal” people... She was also explicitly subordinate to Touka, and Touka for her part seems to treat Mifuyu almost like a pet. As a result, Touka developed a new value system: One that rates the importance and value of a person based on their “contribution” to society, humanity, and the universe as a whole. Naturally, as the wishes of magical girls can advance society and humanity as a whole, they are more valuable than normal people: If a magical girl were to demand something from a normal person, they would be expected to obey it, no matter what that demand is. After all, a magical girl has way more value than them, right? And of course, at the very top of the pyramid would have to be someone that contributes to protect magical girls as a whole, correct? Particularly if they even managed to find a way to make it work with the Incubators and help protect the universe from destruction while doing it. In other words, the Magius themselves.
Touka herself believes that she operates on logic, but she is generally influenced more by her emotions than actual logic and reason. The key example that comes to mind is that her conclusion that slaughtering large numbers of people came from having a petty argument about math with someone younger than her. More than that, she is also by far the most vulnerable mentally in all of the groups she was a part of: As a member of the Magius, there are several moments where Iroha almost convinces her to stop, only for Nemu to act as a crutch for her, and before that, even though she set up the entire master plan to save Iroha, she almost immediately dropped the plan when she heard it had potential to go wrong: It was ultimately Ui who pushed the plan forward, rather than Touka.
Aside from that, as someone who spent the majority of her life being sick, she is extremely sensitive towards people being sick, and one of the few times she was allowed to show something approaching affection to someone during her time as a villain was when Mifuyu got sick.
Character Abilities: ...Well. There is a huge variety here. Being a magical girl itself gives a variety of powers, at the cost of putting one’s soul into a gem. The basic abilities that every magical girl has is that there body is kept in “ideal physical condition”, eliminating illnesses and even issues like poor eyesight, allowing even a magical girl with no experience to have the physical fitness of an athlete, as well as healing from injuries over time -- obviously, the more severe the injury, the longer it takes to recover, but theoretically, as long as the soul gem is intact, any injury can be completely recovered from eventually. Aside from that is the ability to summon weapons, and use them to perform magical attacks. There does not seem to be any particular limit to how much of a weapon they can summon, beyond the fact that they do not seem to be able to summon more than one type of weapon. Touka’s in particular is that of “umbrellas”, which she can use both as physical weapons, and launch into the air to operate as flying lasers. She can also inexplicably use them to fly.
In addition, magical girls also all have their own unique magic, related to their wish: In Touka’s case, her unique magic is “Conversion”, allowing her to transform any type of energy into another. This allows her to have an almost infinite amount of magic power, as well as allowing her to transform the magic of her opponents into her own magic: In Magia Record’s mechanics this is expressed by draining the enemy’s MP, and reducing the enemy team’s attack or defense and increasing her team’s.
Aside from that, Touka is a genius. She canonically makes a huge variety of things, including her own computer server, a radio telescope, and a steam powered toy train: While she herself only talks about her astrophysics and medical knowledge, she has built things in such a wide variety of disciplines that as long as she has the proper parts and it’s within the grasp of modern science, she can probably build it eventually. She has also canonically hacked an entire city’s power grid without any particular issue, so her hacking skills are extremely high as well, though obviously not as immediately relevant.
Items: I’ll just offer the obvious ones of her Soul Gem (a bowtie-shaped jewel on her neck), as well as her umbrella.
